Today we had our annual birthday party for Jesus. We have been doing this with Abigail, Abbe and Olivia for 3 or 4 years now. It is a great time with the kids that we can focus on Jesus' birth. I like the small group because it is more close knit and just a special time and our little tradition to share. Today was great. We did a scavenger hunt to find out what God wants for Christmas.
I would give the kids clue and they would have to find the box and bring it back to the circle to open it and then place the piece on the nativity scene. The next to last picture is Sarah's version of what happen over 2000 years ago. The last picture is our completed scene. The last box the kids opened was a mirror. Elijah did not understand why God would want a mirror!! I explained that it was not the mirror he wanted, but what was in the mirror. He got a big smile and said ME!! I really love this set. It is called "What God wants for Christmas". Everything was included in the set or online. This will be a new tradition. In fact I have the boxes hidden again so Elijah can play when he gets home from a friend's birthday party. We then made the colors of Christmas wreaths. Next we decorated a gingerbread house. Elijah wanted to do this instead of a cake. It was a really fun time.
Of course what is a party without food!! The kids did not want to eat the gingerbread house, so we had the other goodies.
Then we exchanged gifts and played for awhile. I think everyone had a great time.
Elijah and Doug are at a birthday party now at pump-it-up. Sarah is napping. We have a Sunday School workers party tonight at Mr. Todd's and Mrs. Kim's house. Tomorrow after church the kids have a Christmas party with Santa at Jennifer's. We have a busy weekend, but it is so much fun!!
