New Kids on the Block II

Don't they look cute!!! They had a blast "performing" for us. Both of my kids have always loved music. They just seem to connect and really enjoy music. Elijah has grown out of it some, but still loves music. He has taken it up more over the last week or so. He has been singing the umpha umpha song from Willy Wonka movie. Sarah is all about the music. If you put saying in a tune she repeats them easily. Her speech has really taken off and I love to hear her sing. Sarah stops everytime she hears the new Fresh Beat Band on noogin. She tries to do the dance moves too. She is going to be a performer when she grows up. The dance moves have really improved her walking and climbing. She has more strength and stability.

Outdoor fun!!!!!!!

The K's came and visited us a few weekends ago. We had a blast. The kids had a great time playing in the creek. Hmm, guess the adults got in on the action too. They seem to be enjoying the fun also. We then fed the fish. The kids like it the first few minutes, then they wanted to go do something else. I really enjoy watching the fish after we feed them. It is really neat. The fish have gotten use to us feeding them and they swarm when we start feeding. They actually fight each other, silly fish we have plenty of feed. We grilled out and when it started getting dark we had sparklers for the kids. I am going to share a neat picture that T took of the sparklers....hmm, I think I will make you wait until Wednesday and use it as a Wordless Wednesday picture!!!! It is really cool.

Notes to self....

1. Never-ever say that I do not think that Sarah will do a skill that is not an everyday important skill. Tracy and Lorie remember I said that I did not think Sarah would ever climb the ladder to Elijah's top bunk, so I felt safe with the bunk beds in his room? Hmm, guess where I found little Miss Prissy yesterday? Yep, on the top bunk. Elijah climbed up to keep her safe while I grabbed the camera for proof. She climbed herself, no help. Later she climbed up and was playing by herself and I did not know she had gotten up there and I did not even know the door was opened. Elijah says it was shut, she may have opened the door too, great, another problem to deal with. How do I keep a kid out of a room? Is there anything to put at the bottom of the bunk bed that Elijah can remove, but Sarah can not?

2. Follow Sarah EVERYWHERE!!! Guess who taught Sarah to climb the ladder? Her PT, Karen. Go figure. I did not know she was this proficient in climbing. I do not go into therapies anymore because she does better on her own, guess I need to peek in and watch!! She also climbed into a kitchen table chair and sat properly by herself yesterday for the first time. WOW, some great new climbing skills, just what I need. Do they make cushioned houses so we could move AGAIN? This girl is giving her mom grey hairs for sure.

Creation Museum

On Friday of our vacation we went to the Creation Museum. We had a great time. Elijah enjoyed the "robot" dinosaurs, as he called them. Sarah loved hearing Buddy Davis sing. She was not into the tour, so she and I did a fast tour and visited the gift shop!! We did not get to see everything and they are adding new things, so we will visit again in a few years. We had a great time. Doug's brother and some of his family were able to join us for the day. It was great!

More Holiday World Pictures!!!

Elijah and Sarah riding the rocket ship.

Elijah riding the canoe. Sarah could not ride since it did not have a seat belt and I was afraid she would jump in the water. She loves water!!

Sarah is not impressed by the banana.

Bumper car fun!

Holiday World

On Wednesday of last week we went to Holiday World. We went up to Doug's mom's on Tuesday and did some of the sites close by. Holiday was our first visit. We took Elijah when he was 2 and never made it out of the toddler area!!! This year we did all of the park, except the water park area since Doug can not get his cast wet. We will eventually get to all of the park!!!! Both kids really had a great day. Sarah cried when she had to get off the rides and then started crying if the rides did not start as soon as she got on!!! Such a 2 yr old! Elijah was all into playing the games. See what he won!! Such fun toting this through the park!! I will post more of our fun through out the week (if the computer will let me, I tried several times yesterday and was never able to connect to AT&T. I hope it is their problem, not my computer!!!).

4th of July Happenings

We stayed in town for the 4th. We were going to have a cookout, but with Doug's hand I was not sure I could handle all of the prep on my own, so we called it off and just had family fun, which was so much fun!!!! Our little town has a parade called Stars, Stripes, and Squirt guns! The participants and spectators squirt water guns at each other. It was sooooooooooo much fun. The kids had a blast. The M's are moving here also and so they came up for the parade and then we all went over to the farm house that they bought and are remodeling to move into the next few weeks. All of us then went to the fireworks. A storm came, so we viewed the fireworks from our van. The noise was not loud from where we were, but it totally freaked Sarah. I am wondering if the light flashes bother her. It took me a bit to calm her. I was so sorry that I even tried it with her, but I did not know that it was going to bother her so much. Part of the problem was that she was way past her bedtime and she was tired. Elijah wanted us all to dress alike so we got matching shirts and wore blue jean shorts. My camera decided that it wanted new batteries once we got to the parade, so I only got one picture. Guess I need to keep spare batteries on hand!!!

Swimming Graduation

The kids really loved their swimming lessons. Elijah is starting to swim on his own. He has really improved this year. Sarah is so unafraid of the water. She now knows how to hold her breath and kick to get back to the surface if she does fall in. She is also beginning to use her hands and legs to propel herself. I still do not think she has the strength to get back to the surface and get her head up. We have tried numerous life vest/suits, etc to find one that helps keep her head up if she goes under. The infant ones bring her up, but does not get her over on her back, so her face stays under. If you know of a good one that we can try let me know. Our swimming instructor tried all of the vest she has and still did not find one. I am going to ask the Down syndrome association to see if they have suggestions.

Rock city/Ruby Falls

A few weekends ago we went to Chattanooga for a baby shower. We were able to visit with our extended family and had a great time. At the last minute, Pop-pop and Karen came up from Atlanta to visit with us the next day. We decided to go to Rock City and Ruby Falls. The kids had a blast. I think both kids liked Ruby Falls the best. Elijah because he is all into caves and exploring. Sarah because it was cooler and had tons of water at the end!!! She is all about the water these days!

Cook-out with friends

We have had several cook-outs with friends. I only thought to take pictures at one. We built a fire in the back yard and the kids roasted their hotdogs( a few got away, but the dog was happy to gobble up any that fell off the stick!!!). After supper we played for a bit then roasted marshmallows for smores. YUMMY!!!! Before supper the kids went stomping in the creek. Several, including Sarah, were soaked!!! I was amazed at how wet kids could get with so little water!!! We have had a great summer enjoying the great outdoors God created for us. Sarah and P enjoying a book:
Sarah ready to roast her marshmallows!!!
Enjoying the fun:

Country living

Man, living in the country is more time consuming. Sorry I have been a bad blogger, but between housework, yard mowing(6 acres), swimming lessons, and helping a friend paint her new home, I have not had time to blog. I am going to try to do better. We are going to be out of town for a few days later this week, so I am going to try to schedule some later post for you to catch up on us while we are gone and then when we get back I will have new things to share. Here is a picture for today. These pictures are the kids enjoying a cupcake after Elijah finished his first set of swimming lessons.

Swimming lessons

Since both kids will be graduating from swimming lessons tomorrow, guess I need to share pictures from Elijah's first set of lessons 2 weeks ago!!! He has done wonderful. He started the preschool lessons this year. Mom and Dad are not allowed to watch. There are 3 levels to the preschool lessons. He completed 2 levels his first session!!!!! He is almost swimming. He just needs to learn to put his head up and take a breath and just not stop everything!! He will get it soon, I hope.
