Elijah and Makenzie's field trip

All of the kindergarten kids went to the Nashville Children's Theater to see Charlotte's Web. They all had a great time. Here are a few pictures of the kids. We then went to the park after the play to...play!! Everyone had a great time. Doug brought Sarah to the park so she could play too. Makenzie is Elijah's friend and we go to church with her family. She came home with us and spent the afternoon at the house. They had a blast. I think they had more fun at the house than at the park.

Sarah's 1st Chore

Tonight Sarah graduated into the big girl club at our house. We have babied her way too long. She is doing so much at school that I never dreamed to even let her try. They have different stations they can go to within various subject areas. One area that I am excited about is homeliving. In this area they have stations on pouring, using a spoon/scoop, dressing, opening/closing containers, etc. So useful for Sarah. On Thursday, Sarah carried her snack tray with a bowl of cereal, a pitcher of milk(they have the cutest tiny pitchers), spoon and napkin. Sarah poured the first container of milk on the table. Her teacher went over and without saying a word, wiped the spill up, gave her a new pitcher and used hand over hand to help Sarah pour a small amount of milk on the cereal. Sarah then poured the rest of the milk in the bowl by HERSELF!! The little stinker, she does not even attempt to do things at home. Tonight Elijah was unloading the dishwasher(under protest, although this is his chore) and she went over and tried to help. Elijah of course protested that Sarah was bothering him while he was working....just have to have an argument, it is his sister you know. I told him that she could help and he could teach her. I showed him how to hand her a plastic cup or bowl and then show her to put them on the counter for him to put up. They worked together until the dishwasher was empty. Sarah then began clapping and dancing. She was so proud of herself. Of course, her mommy was ecstatic with pride. She then went upstairs and really helped cleaning up the playroom. Time to make her chore chart like Elijah's. Such a big girl.

Our Flood Pictures

We have really fared well with all of the rain. With a pond and a creek on one side of our property, we are blessed to still be dry. As you can see from the pictures, our yard is a river, but it never came inside. The picture at the top is our front yard where the pond is. Hope we still have a few fish left! This is our front sidewalk. The water is up to the first step. Here is our back yard. The kids lost a few toys that were washed away yesterday. Yesterday all seemed fine and then suddenly it started to rain really hard and we looked out and water was coming from the road, down the field in front of the house. Water has never came in from this direction. The pond generally overflows. This time it came from the field into the pond and then overflowed. The creek also overflowed. We have not seen this happen either. When you stand in our creek most of the time the water is so low that the bank is 6 foot high. I can not see our house from the creek bed. You can not see the creek from our house usually. We grabbed the kids, pictures, clothes and our hard-drive(I am sooooo behind on backing up pictures...bet I catch up fast!) and fled to higher ground. Took a few tries, but we finally found a way out to the main road. Spent the night with friends. Today we came back and the water had receded, but soon the rain began and the water rose again. So far we are still dry. We will have to have the hvac checked since it is under the house. We may also need to have the crawl space checked after the water recedes for shifts and mold. Doug also checked our underground gas tank and smelled gas and heard a hissing sound. Gas company came. We do have a leak at the tank. No way to turn it off. In fact they said we would need to use the gas in the tank first so they can repair it. I think the gas company owns our tank and will be responsible for the repair, at least that is my prayer!! Kids are in bed now and the water is down, so praying for no more rain.Water is starting to go down!! Can you tell?
